how to have friends

I don't know how to have friends.
I don't think I ever made one
they just appeared,
adopting me
like some stray cat
the dog dragged in.

Half-wild,
with one ear
and no trust.
Half-glad
to be warm
unable to behave
still, they put up with me,
and that is all I know
on how to have friends.
